Tropicaleiza Dance and Drum Company founded in 2006 and directed by Julie Simon is a multidimensional dynamic magnanimous group of powerful diverse women fully expressing themselves through the joyful acts of dancing and drumming. They exist to impart strength, vigor and joy into people’s lives empowering them through compelling storytelling, movement workshops, and audience interaction. Unique in the fact that they drum and dance simultaneously, their repertoire honors the complex and vital art of the feminine, incorporating grounded uninhibited expression, fluid voluminous contemporary movement and the playfulness and joy of Brazilian dance and music.
This series, curated by acclaimed choreographer, teacher and producer Jamie Nichols, presents top dance companies from Southern California performing site-specific work in non-traditional performance spaces around Brand Library. This year performances will be live and in person. The Dance Series also includes an interactive workshop on Sunday, May 15 at 4pm with an opportunity to meet the artists, ask questions and learn more about dance!
