Learn to perform four science experiments (rainbow milk, density tower, lime volcano, and lava lamp!) and participate in a science trivia challenge.

The science experiments that will be performed are Rainbow Milk, Density Tower, Lime Volcano, Lava Lamp! Learn science, have fun, and try to win a prize!

Please Note: Some of the supplies will be provided and will be available for pick up at Pacific Park Library during the month of March on designated dates and times. After registering, wait for an email stating that your Maker Kit is ready for pickup. The email will also include instructions on how to pick up the Maker Kit. The Pacific Park Library is currently closed and will only be open for Maker Kit pickups, therefore it is important that you wait for the confirmation email stating your Maker Kit is ready.

Materials Needed:

Included in the Maker Kit:

  • 4 food colorings (red, yellow, green, blue)

Besides the food coloring, the additional supplies listed below are not included in the Maker Kit:

  • Rainbow Milk
    Supplies needed:
    1. ingredients: 1 cup whole milk, different colors of food coloring (to make it look more colorful!).
    2. tools: a bowl, dish soap, and a napkin.
  • Density Tower
    Supplies needed:
    1. ingredients: honey, green dish soap, water, isopropyl alcohol, baby oil, and red and blue food coloringThe amount needed of these ingredients depends on the size of the container being used, one cup of each should be enough.
    2. tools: a jar or a long glass.
  • Lime Volcano
    Supplies needed:
    1. ingredients: 2-3 tsp of baking soda, 4-6 drops of food coloring, and 1 lemon (2 lemons if you want to do the experiment again!).
    2. tools: a spoon, a paper plate or napkin to put the lemon on, a knife to cut the lemon. Please ask for an adult to assist you with cutting the lemon.
  • Lava Lamp 
    Supplies needed:
    1. ingredients: 1 cup of oil, 1/4 cup of vinegar, 1-4 drops of food coloring (1 color only), 1-2 tsp of baking soda, 1 tsp of water.
    2. tools: a long glass or a big jar

NOTICES:

Please have the materials ready for the workshop day.
It is recommended that children younger than 9 years old should have adult supervision during this program.

*Some notes about virtual maker workshops:

You will receive a link to the virtual workshop with login information up to 2 days prior to the workshop's date.

It is highly recommended you have a device with a webcam so that if you need assistance, you may show the instructor your project. If you cannot have a camera on during this class, the instructor may not be able to assist you.

Registered participants are asked to give a 24 hour cancellation notice prior to the workshop start time to allow others on the waiting list to attend. Failure to cancel with adequate notice may result in loss of the ability to register for future workshops.
