Join us at Brand to celebrate Neighborhood Ecology. Learn more about the artwork on view from the artists and curator, watch a short film, and see lowriders from the Los Angeles Lowrider Alliance.

Join us for an Artist Open House at Brand Library & Art Center to celebrate Neighborhood Ecology. Drop by the gallery to meet exhibition artists and learn more about their work. Curator Stephanie Sherwood will also be around to chat and discuss how the SoCal-themed exhibit came to be. In the Recital Hall, view ENTRE LUZ, the behind-the-scenes documentary for Jazmin Garcia’s Trokas Duras, and speak with filmmaker Pablo Simental. And check out the amazing lowriders in Brand Park. Members of the Los Angeles Lowrider Alliance will show their vehicles and share the rich cultural meaning behind Southern California’s vibrant car culture.

Neighborhood Ecology brings together a group of local artists whose work highlights different aspects of various Southern California environs: how the area is seen by non-locals, how it is experienced by its residents, and how the community celebrates their identity. The artwork explores the many facets of the region – its boosterism, its visible societal concerns, its flora and fauna, its historic manmade landmarks, and its passionate residents. In addition to the professional artists featured in Neighborhood Ecology, young artists from all five high schools in Glendale Unified School District (GUSD) are presenting artwork that examines their own neighborhoods.

Sponsored by the Brand Associates and the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission through funding from the Urban Art Fund.
