Attend an opening reception celebrating Yeu Q Nguyen's installation titled "Of Wave and Stones" at the Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station.

An opening reception hosted by the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association celebrating Yeu Q Nguyen's installation titled Of Wave and Stones will take place Sunday, August 24 from 10:00 AM - 12:30 PM at Adams Square Mini Park. The Gas Station will be open for the audience to experience the towering jade-color wave up close made from over 4,000 yards of tulle. Audiences of all ages can also participate in a stone-painting activity and contribute to the artwork's collective wisdom of resilience with their own mantra or image signifying self-empowerment. All materials will be provided. Complimentary refreshments will also be provided.

Using water as a symbol for the quiet determination that allows us to inevitably triumph over obstacles, Of Wave and Stones pays homage to the ancient Asian wisdom on the power of resilience and the courageous immigrants and refugees who made their new lives in America. Its structural design, inspired by the construction of a bridal veil, and the use of delicate tulle debunks the myth of feminine fragility and celebrates power as a balance embodying both strength and softness.

This temporary art installation is generously sponsored by the Glendale Arts & Culture Commission through funding from the Urban Art Fund, with support from Glendale Library, Arts & CultureGlendale Community Services & Parks, and the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association
